How to Choose a Wedding Invitation Suite That Feels Like You
Choosing your wedding invitation suite is one of the most exciting parts of the planning journey. It’s the first tangible piece of your wedding that your guests will see. It sets the mood, builds anticipation, and introduces the aesthetic of your day long before anyone steps into the venue.
But with hundreds of styles, print methods, and design vibes out there… where do you even start?
Here’s your guide to finding the one.
1. Start With Your Wedding Vision
Your stationery should reflect the overall personality of your wedding day.
Ask yourself:
Is your wedding chic and modern?
Soft and romantic?
Destination and full of color?
Timeless and clean?
The invitation suite is the visual handshake to that vibe. When you can clearly describe your aesthetic, designing becomes 10x easier (and more fun).
Chroma Tip: Make a small Pinterest board (15–20 pins max). Too many pins = too much pressure.
2. Pick a Color Story That Flows
Your invitation doesn’t need to match your wedding colors exactly but it should complement them.
Think:
Soft neutrals + dusty tones for romantic weddings
Bold jewel tones for fall celebrations
Coastal blues + linen textures for destination weddings
Minimal black + white for modern elegance
Chroma Tip: Swatches matter. Your envelope and paper color can completely transform the look.
3. Choose Your Print Method
Each print method tells a different story.
Digital Printing – clean, vibrant, budget-friendly
Letterpress – luxurious, textured, heirloom-level
Foil Printing – metallic shine, perfect for monograms
Embossing/Debossing – adds depth and sophistication
Hand-painted Watercolor Elements – Chroma’s signature touch for that romantic softness
Think about how much texture, shine, and dimension you want your suite to have.
4. Decide What Components You Really Need
A suite doesn’t have to include everything. The essentials are:
Invitation card
Envelope
Details Card
RSVP card or code clearly displayed
Optional (but stunning) additions:
Envelope liner
Custom crest
Wax seal
Vellum wrap
Die-cut pockets
Ribbon
5. Bring in Personal Elements
This is where your suite becomes uniquely yours.
Think:
A watercolor venue illustration
A crest featuring initials, pets, or meaningful symbols
Cultural elements, florals, or motifs that tell your story
A color palette inspired by your décor
Your stationery should feel like intentional
6. Timeline Check (The Most Overlooked Step!)
One of the biggest questions couples have is “When should we order and send everything?”
Instead of guessing, I’ve created a full visual timeline chart that breaks down exactly when you should:
contact your stationery designer,
start the design process,
send out Save the Dates, and
mail your wedding invitations.
✨ Check out our full timeline blog post. It gives you a month-by-month breakdown so you know you’re on schedule.
7. Trust the Design Process
Your designer (hi, that’s me!) will guide you with:
Mockups
Paper recommendations
Print method suggestions
Color stories
And the perfect finishing touches
You bring the vision. I bring it to life.
